MY PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

I think that education involves a lot more people than just students and teachers and reaches far beyond the boundaries of the classroom. Everywhere people move, they should be continuing their education. I believe that students and teachers shouldn’t be afraid to make mistakes, especially with that comes from being able to learn and experience new things. It would be impossible to list all the duties a teacher does, but one of the most significant ones is ensuring that pupils are ready to learn—not just in the classroom but also outside of it and throughout the rest of their lives.

My mother, a teacher in my hometown, has been a very big influence on me ever since. For me, she is a teacher and a best friend to her students, and I admire her for that.I want students to look forward to coming to school and enjoying themselves. As a teacher I want to provide a caring, supportive and happy environment where all students are striving to achieve their best. I will encourage students to take pride in their work and to not be ashamed. With an open-door policy, I want students to know that I am there to listen and help to the best of my ability, may it be academic or personal issues. As a teacher I want to create positive and respectful relationships with every student, but also with parents, co-workers and the community.

I believe that in the near future technology will be a dominant figure within my classrooms, both in private and public schools. That is why I believe it’s important for me to be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of its use within the classroom. It’s also extremely important that I have an understanding on how to use certain technology within the classroom. With the high tech computers, laptops, smart TVs, etc, it makes the teaching process efficient and light. But we must never forget that the traditional methods of teaching are also an effective way to cater to students. As a student teacher in Silliman University, it was very evident that both the traditional and new mode of teaching. Also, understanding the ways that my learners learn will enable me to design a learning environment that will support each student's needs and advance their education.

As a future teacher, and being able to have an experience teaching both public and private school, then I believe that the experiences I have will grow and change as I explore my career and discover who I am as a teacher. As of now my philosophy is built by my personal beliefs, values and experiences within primary school settings as well as my own life experiences. As a teacher of the next generation I believe that teaching students many core values that they will be able to apply is necessary.
